Representing The Feather staff, editor in chief Alexander Rurik participated in the Columbia Press Association spring conference in New York, March 21. Due to personal scheduling conflicts, both advisers were not able to attend this year’s conference.
While in NYC, Rurik and his mother, Julie Rurik, father, Scott Rurik, and brother, Andrew Rurik attend CSPA conferences, March 21-22. They also visit Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), ‘The Play that Goes Wrong’ on Broadway and walk around Times Square.
A member of the Feather staff for six years now, Rurik continues to represent The Feather. He felt the need to attend the Columbia conferences since the team has gone for multiple years in a row.
“I wanted to go to New York because I felt like The Feather should be represented at the CSPA convention,” Rurik said. “After we have gone for so long, it seemed weird that there would not be a representative at Columbia. It is a lot easier to represent as a single person than one may think. One person can have an enormous Twitter and social media presence and make it seem like you are more than just one person.
“The Feather is also well known around here so people see the logo on my shirt and often recognize it,” Rurik continued. “Something that has stuck out this year specifically is that the people attending the conference this year seem all around more engaged and eager to learn. I have loved being able to represent The Feather here.”
