Feather staffers travel to Anaheim, CA for the NSPA Spring National High school Journalism Convention, April 23.
The following day, the staff tours Warner Bros. Studios, and the ABC 7 Eyewitness newsroom. Prior to the beginning of the conference, staffers enjoy a full day at Disneyland and California Adventure.
Warner Bros. produces many forms of entertainment, including animation, motion pictures, television, technology, DC entertainment, interactive entertainment, consumer products, home entertainment, the CW network and digital networks.
During their visit to the studios, staffers go on the deluxe tour and learn about the movie-making process, view sets and soundstages. The five-hour tour also included tours of a prop house, costume archives, and famous sets such as Central Perk Coffee Shop in the TV show Friends.
ABC 7 Eyewitness News gives Feather staffers the opportunity to see how a professional news station operates. Guided by Michael Merle, News Operations Manager, staffers get a behind the scenes look at the filming of live television, meeting and talking to various journalists, including Danny Romero, the weekend evening weathercaster.
At the opening ceremonies to the NSPA conference, Feather staffers, along with high school and junior high journalism students from around the world listen to the keynote speech by Sonia Nazario. Nazario is an award-winning journalist who has a passion for issues including hunger and immigration. A few of her notable accomplishments include her featured writing, “Enrique’s Journey,” which won a Pulitzer Prize and was turned into a bestselling book, and the American Heritage Award.
