Elementary, junior high, ‘Cantiamo’ high school choir and girls ensemble ‘Bellezza performs at the annual spring choir concert in the Peoples Church auditorium, May 6.
Choir director, Susan Ainley, has directed Fresno Christian choir for 18 years. Ainley is accompanied on the piano by Benjamin Certain. Ainley discusses the purpose of this concert.
“The spring concert is really a chance to accomplish three things. First, we show the audience out musical growth by singing difficult music that connects with people,” Ainley said. “I know the students can recognize how far they have come in one school year. They think about the music that range early in the year, and how long it took to learn, and they can easily see the progress they have made.”
Ainley believes this concert also serves the purpose of thanking friends and family for supporting the music department throughout the year.
With a total of 65 students in ‘Cantiamo,’ the high school choir performs a total of three songs, concluding the concert with “Daniel.”
Girls ensemble performed “Even When He is Silent” during the concert. Junior high and high school choir’s next performance will be at the high school graduation at 7 p.m., May 23.
During the concert, Ainley shares the growth and progression of the choral program during her tenure as director.
Choir traveled to Hume in the beginning of the year for the choir retreat. They also went to Cal Poly and the Heritage Festival. Women’s Ensemble, Bellezza, went to the choir retreat at Hume, Westmont, Heritage and Cal Poly.
