Today, The Feather staff participates in the 5th annual News Engagement Day (NED), Oct. 1.
According to the NED website, the purpose of the day is “to encourage engagement with news and promote understanding about the principles and process of journalism in a democratic society.”
Our team, consisting of 20 returning staffers, 17 brand new to journalism and 6 international students, aims to make the most out of this year by reaching beyond the walls of our school to cover events and news through our city and country.
The Feather staff utilizes News Engagement Day to promote the five freedoms of the First Amendment and challenge ideas of insecurity or self-doubt in the school. Through lunchtime activities and flyers that cover the halls, the Feather staff urges the student body to acknowledge the importance of their voice.
On-campus, students are encouraged to watch videos, tweet messages, and post pictures.
How do you stay engaged with the news?
