On January 26, 2020, Kobe Bryant along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven other people passed away due to a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.
Bryant and the other passengers were on their way to a youth basketball event in Thousand Oaks, California when the Sikorsky S76-B helicopter crashed, flying too low to be detected by radar. The cause of the crash is still unknown.
The news of the five-time world champion’s death shocked the nation, with the subject trending on Twitter minutes after his death was confirmed. Since Bryant was only 41 years old at the time of his death, most people were startled by the news.
Bryant amassed a large number of accomplishments during his time in the NBA. He won the NBA championship five times, and was named the Finals MVP twice. He spent all 20 of his years in the NBA with the Lakers, and even won two gold medals at the Olympics with the United States.
