Fresno Christian Rocket Program opens to new members
A new amatuer experimental rocketry club will hold an informational meeting in room 622 at lunch, Oct 28. The group is open to high school students interested in engineering high-performance rockets.
The Fresno Christian Rocket Program (FCRP) aims to launch a made-from-scratch rocket to 5,280 feet, or one mile. Members will study different aspects of rocket science, and then design an engine, airframe and flight computer.
Founders Bryce Foshee and Andrew Rieker began experimenting with rockets in 2017. After successfully launching to 340 feet, they decided to take on a more ambitious project. Campus science and math teacher Scott Bucher agreed to advise the club.
FCRP is organized into three design teams: Propulsion, Avionics and Structures. Members can join the team that most piques their curiosity. Information about how to join can be found on FCRP’s website.
The club will meet twice a month starting in November. After finishing a prototype, the club will travel to a amatuer rocket test facility in the Mojave desert.
