Girls soccer defeated Sierra, 7-1, at their first home game, March 15.
The girls varsity soccer team is coached by Matt Markarian and co-coached by his brother, Garret Markarian. The team concluded their season for the first time in nearly 20 years, finishing the year as CIF Central section Division V valley Championships during the 2020 season.
Fresno Christian girls soccer continues to light train while maintaining COVID-19 guidelines until they had confirmation of the 2021 season.
With a total of 23 players and 4 seniors, the team strives for the championship in back to back years. Seniors consist of Rylee Schwabb, Brynlee Schmidt, Hannah Villines and Natalie Arndt. Stay tuned to The Feather for senior night.
Senior Rylee Schwabb has been playing soccer her whole life and expresses her passion for the game. “It’s such a fun sport. You get to be a part of a team, be physical, competitive, and there is always room to improve or be better. My teammates are awesome and they make the game so enjoyable.” Schwabb doesn’t plan on playing after highschool, but will be playing for the GCU club team.
The head girls soccer coach, Matt Markarian, hopes to retain the victory championship title in the midst of losing 10 key seniors.
“We are very excited to train all of our new players. Last season we had so many amazing seniors who led us to a valley championship. That group will always be special, but this group of players has the chance to be even better.” Markarian said.
The teams next game will be against CVCHS at home 6:45 pm, March 23. If you can, please come out and support girls soccer!
