Due to COVID-19, the Fresno Christian Boys Baseball 2020 season was cut short. After one whole year, the baseball team is back! Boys baseball participates in their first scrimmage against Clovis West, March 17.
Last year, the baseball team had a record of 5-2 overall in their 2020 season.
Baseball captain, Casey LaCroix, ’22, shares his hopes for this years team.
“Since last year,” LaCroix said, “our team has grown in numbers and talent. I expect we’ll do great things.”
LaCroix has played baseball for as long as he can remember and is currently on his fifth year playing for the FC team. LaCroix has played catcher since fifth grade.
“I pitch and play outfield when my knees need a break.” LaCroix said.
LaCroix is unsure if he plans to continue to play baseball in college. His love for the game started when he and his dad, Doug LaCroix, would toss the ball around together. Since then, LaCroix has had various coaches throughout the years who have expanded his knowledge and skill.
“I purely continue to play for the love of the game.” LaCroix continued.
Head coach, Noah Heinz, started teaching LaCroix four years ago and began teaching baseball 13 years ago, 11 of which at Fresno Christian. Heinz played third base in high school at Clovis West and loves to teach the team with a family aspect.
“I love getting to interact with my team. Since we don’t have a JV team,” Heinz continues, “I get to spend four years with some of these freshmen and that is definitely the best part of my job.”
When Heinz isn’t coaching the campus baseball team, his time is filled taking care of his six and three-year-old children or watching documentaries.
Make sure to go out and support baseball at their next home game against CVCHS, April 13. Go Eagles!
