Coming back from the last season in Selland Arena as reigning Valley Champs, boys basketball is back on the court, May 10. Basketball is annually a winter sport, but due to COVID-19, this season has been pushed back to play in the spring.
Along with the delayed season, the team is required to get tested regularly to play under California Department of Public Health regulations.
Coach Jonathan Penberthy has coached at FC for seven years. He especially pushed to have a season this year for the five seniors, four of which are returning and one who joined this year.
Among these returning seniors, Bryson Graham has been a part of Penberthy’s high school team for all four of his high school years.
“This year,” Graham said, “the team hasn’t had much of a connection because we haven’t spent too much time together.”
Graham is a lifer at FC and has played basketball since fifth grade, only to be disappointed with how his senior season has turned out.
“I’ve made peace with how this season is,” Graham continued, “but I will treasure all the memories we’ve made throughout the years.”
Despite how the season has panned out, Graham is still grateful that there is a season at all and for all the work coach Penberthy put in to make it happen.
“I would like to thank coach Penberthy,” Graham said, “for making a season out of so little and still giving us the opportunity to play.”
Additional returning seniors Carston Saelzler, Bryce Foshee and Joseph Estes, along with first-year Paul Lechuga, are being celebrated on senior night; the date is yet to be determined.
