Being a photographer means hard work, dedication, and a lot of patience. Joining The Feather was the best decision I’ve ever made in my life. I have learned how to put together a camera, configure the settings, and how to accurately document events.
Throughout this past year I have discovered how to efficiently manage my time and how to communicate effectively with the people around me. The skills that I have learned this year will influence who I will become in my future career.
One event in particular that has changed my perception this year was the valentines concert, in which I learned how to correct my mistakes. In taking responsibility, I was able to understand what I needed to correct and how to improve the next time.
Another event that has inspired me and challenged me was writing about Robert Uyasaka’s story. Despite all of his struggles, he learned how to set aside his pride and not grow bitter in the midst. His testimony encouraged me to persevere through my own challenges with integrity and humility.
With the uncertainty that photojournalism will be a part of my life in the future, my goal is to allow God to steer my decisions.
I would advise future photojournalists that they should be bold enough to voice their thoughts, and that they will never be without guidance or help. Furthermore, diligence is key to succeeding in this class. I want to personally thank Kori James for her patience, hard work, and commitment to her team. She has guided me through the process of becoming a photojournalist and a better person. I also want to thank Greg Stobbe for his strength and dedication to The Feather.
He has been the backbone of this team and without him, The Feather wouldn’t exist. Stobbe has inspired me to become a better writer and how to stay faithful to what I am passionate about. With the skills that The Feather has provided, I am fully equipped to succeed. I’m looking forward to what the future holds.
