Amidst the many struggles pertaining to COVID-19 The Feather Online persevered through the 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years. Continuing to compete nationally, the team earned a 2021 CSPA Digital Gold Crown and the distinguished NSPA Pacemaker Top 100, in celebration of the National Student Press centennial year.
For the first time in over 20 years, The Feather Online entered the new school year without an editor-in-chief. Feather staffers rapidly learned new techniques and journalistic abilities to overcome the lack of student leadership in the publication. Recently, juniors Amanda Johnson and Emma Calderon stepped into the role of co-senior editors, helping to edit and publish articles.
This year’s returning staff consists of only thirteen journalists, three video journalists and six photojournalists. The team is primarily made up of 14 new staffers. Adviser Kori James, who is advising without her long-time partner Greg Stobbe, planned out this year as strictly a learning year, even removing the team from competitions.
