Typically every year for ‘Kids Day‘, corners are full of students and community members with orange vests selling the annual ‘Valley Childrens Kids Day’ papers for $1, but due to COVID-19, this year looked different.
As a 20+ year tradition, The Feather staff heads out on the streets encouraging pedestrians to donate for the 35th annual Kids Day, March 8. Staff, along with a few leadership students bring speakers and their best dance moves to the streets to spread news engagement.
Adviser Kori James hasn’t missed the opportunity for nine years and doesn’t want to let COVID-19 take that away.
“Even though Kids Day moved online, we feel it’s crucial to let the community know.” James Said. “People have a natural innate desire to serve and help. Going online really does remove that community engagement piece that so many students loved. I truly hope Kids Day comes back to the streets.”
Virtually this year, Fresno Christian competed in the fundraising campaign and finished 1st on the leaderboard with $2,050.
Kids Day is one day out of the year where the community comes together to help raise money by selling special edition newspapers for Valley Children’s Hospital.
