Feather Journalist tries Cheer from The Feather Online on Vimeo.
Feather Journalist, Kemya Hopkins, ’24, takes on a new challenge for her latest article series where she spends several practices with the nationally-ranked FC cheer team. During this endeavor, she experiences what it’s like to condition, stunt, and work on her jumping ability.
Hopkins who has never been a part of a cheer team or dance class was surprised at how difficult it was.
“My experience was startling, complicated, and unexpected, Hopkins said. “After getting a glimpse into the life of a cheerleader I can confidently say cheer is a sport. It requires physical exertion and athletic activity for stunting and difficult dance routines.”
Hopkins hopes to continue this series based on challenges that push her to try new things.
