The 15th annual FC Serve Day allows students and staff to leave the classroom for a day and travel around various locations in Fresno and Clovis to help the community, Feb. 17.
The ENP (Every Neighborhood Partnership) has helped each year with setting up local non-profits. There are 10 different venues FC will be offering their services to.
The object of Serve Day is not only to help the community one day out of the year, but the hope is to educate high schoolers on the need for volunteers and encourage them to serve on their own time. Earlier in the week during homeroom, students signed up for the location that interested them most.
Senior Keely Friesen transferred to Fresno Christian in 7th grade and has attended Serve Day every year.
“I enjoy serving the community alongside my friends.” Friesen said, “Last year I volunteered at The Well organizing closets, raking and just being an extra set of hands. I made a lot of memories serving that I will never forget.”
The different locations students and staff will be serving:
– Reading Heart
– Peoples Church
– The Well
– Cross City
– Martin Park clean up
– Graffiti clean up
– Firehouse clean up
– Lowell clean up
– Southeast park clean up
– Community food bank
History and Leadership teacher Robert Foshee has been on staff at Fresno Christian for 24 years and has helped organize Serve Day since 2010.
“I think Serve Day is so important because it has us obey the commandment to love God and love others as we love ourselves and there’s a tangible way to do that,” Foshee said.
Foshee is looking forward to encouraging students to serve and leaving an impact on our city.
“It’s by going out into the city and serving as a community,” Foshee said. “I think it shows the school’s importance for this day by allowing students to leave class. We serve every day, but I think it’s a symbolic moment to come together and serve our community because we love the city of Fresno and we want the Lord to bless it and His Spirit to move in it.”
