On November 16, 2023, the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed in the CIF Valleys sectional meet. With 31 schools in Division 5, athletes aimed to qualify for the state meet the next week.
The top five runners with the best times and finishing in the top 12 overall qualify for the State meet. The two schools with the lowest scores secure automatic spots. Team scores are calculated by adding the rankings of the top five runners, ensuring those who qualify have lower total scores and a guaranteed invitation to the state competition.
Julia Gray, ’26, clinched twelfth place with a time of 21:32, securing a spot at the State competition. Leading the girls’ team, Gray guided them, with the rest of the FC girls closely following her.
Blake Bay, ’27, triumphed in the Central Sectional Divisional Championships D5, claiming first place with an impressive time of 16 minutes and 11 seconds. He led the race from start to finish, with the other boys trailing behind him. Join us in cheering for Bay and Gray on November 25 as they compete in the State meet. The event will take place at Woodward Park.
