The smell of paint drifts through the air as students cover graffiti. They lift heavy trees, collect cans, and bins of trash. Another group slides boxes of dried goods across the floor for families at the food bank. For the tenth annual FC Serve Day, Fresno Christian high schoolers scatter to 10 locations across the valley, March 8.
Partnering with local organizations, students cleaned parks, packaged food, and completed chores for local churches. One service project was at Evangel Home, a safe house for women and children. Students helped paint the interior of the house and learn more about the organization. Emma Wisely, ’27, shares how she learned more about the organization and the importance of having a safe house for women in this area.
“They have a few houses they bought to rent out to families and a recreational house to do activities together,” said Emma, “The woman [Jackie Pearson] in charge is very welcoming and does a good job of helping out our community and connecting us to help people in need.”
Helping at the Evangel Home is just opportunity students had to invest in the community and learn about local non-profits.
