LIBRARY MATERIALS DUE
Students must return any checked-out items from the Library Media Center before they can take their finals. The deadline for seniors is Friday, May 25. For all other grades, the deadline is Friday, May 22. As a remember, there is a $30 fee for each item that is not returned; fees are due before finals.
ATTENTION UC STUDENTS
Seniors who are planning on attending a University of California school must see Molly Sargent ASAP for some important information about this system.
FCS FACULTY SCHOLARSHIP
Every year at graduation, a senior is awarded the FCS Faculty Scholarship. All graduating seniors who meet the following criteria will be considered:
?Must be a graduating senior at FCHS
?Must have been enrolled at FCHS for a minimum of three years
?Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
?Must be involved in a local church
?Must demonstrate Christian character
In addition to completing the application, the senior must compose a personal statement and have a faculty member complete the recommendation page.
In order to be considered for this award, students must see Molly Sargent for an application, which is due May 15. A committee composed of FCS faculty K-12 will consider the applicants, determine the recipient and award the scholarship at graduation. Please see Sargent for more information.
PHOENIX CONVENTION RESULTS
Nine members of The Feather staff attended the JEA/NSPA Spring National High School Journalism Convention in Phoenix, AZ, where the newspaper was recognized as one of 15 Online Pacemaker finalists. In addition, junior Spencer Lee, sports editor, competed in an on-site sports writing contest against more than 80 other students and placed third with an “Excellent” rating.
FRATERNITY SCHOLARSHIP OFFERED
The Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at California State University, Fresno, is offering its Balanced Man Scholarship for graduating seniors. Applicants should be incoming freshmen who exhibit academic excellence, demonstrate leadership skills and commit to health and well-being. The deadline for submission is May 6. Please see Molly Sargent for details and an application.

The Feather Online now features slideshows on several articles, including the following: Track and field sport shorts, How to: Make a ribbon, Cheer to perform at USA Spirit Nationals, Girls’ basketball sport shorts, 2009, Autorama rallies motor fans, Golf sport shorts, 2009 and Badminton proffers intramural challenge. More slideshows will be available in the coming weeks.
The Feather welcomes photographs from students, parents and other community members interested in Fresno Christian High activities. In the coming months, The Feather Online will also create a Media section to house all slideshows, videos and photographs.
NSPA HONORS ‘THE TEEN AGE’
Junior Daniel Hopper was honored this week by the National Scholastic Press Association when his comic, “The Teen Age,” was placed on their Web site. The NSPA highlighted Daniel’s Feb. 26 comic on all of their Web pages, including the section which names The Feather Online as one NSPA’s 2009 Pacemaker finalists.
Hopper has drawn a comic strip for The Feather Online since he debuted The Teen Age, October 25, 2008. The NSPA, based in Minneapolis, MN, has been judging student publications since 1921 and online newspapers since 2001.
Those who have not kept up with the antics of the Teen Age’s main character, Jake, and his best friend Bradley, may want to read Jenn Boudreau and Hannah Joseph’s Oct. 29, 2008, article, “Illustrator debuts daily online comic strip.”
SELECTIVE SERVICE REGISTRATION
All 17- and 18-year-old guys should remember to register with the Selective Service System. Federal law requires all men living in the U.S. to register within a month of their 18th birthday. Registering keeps students eligible for college loans, job training, government jobs and driver’s license renewal in most states. Pick up a Selective Service registration card at a local post office or register online at www.sss.gov.
CELL PHONE POLICY REMINDER
Cell phones are not to be seen in any of the buildings on campus between the hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., regardless of any reason. They will be taken away and kept by an administrator until after 3 p.m. However, students may use cell phones outside the building or in the high school office, with permission, during school hours.
HS BOYS’ BIBLE STUDY
Every Friday at lunch there is a Bible study for high schools boys in Room 623. Coach Sorenson will be there to lead the discussion. For more information, contact Sorenson.
