With the approach of homecoming, focus has remained on football as FCA met to discuss the basics on building a relationship with God. The Oct. 18 meeting has a similar focus.
Don McClanen founded Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) in 1954 to encourage youth athletes to perform through faith.
FCA is an organization that inspires teen athletes to live and compete in a Christ-like manner. It is the largest Christian sports organization in America.
?I love FCA because it gives me an opportunity to fellowship with other students,? Quinn Livingston, ?10, said. ?I also enjoy listening to the speakers talk about how God is working in their life. I really enjoy being a part of FCA and learning more about God.?
The previous FCA meeting was lead by Josh Shirley, former Fresno State football player, on Oct. 5, who spoke about ?Where your passion lies.? He referred to 1 Corinthians 15:33 and Colossians 3.
Ericlee Gilmore, FCA adviser, became involved in 1993, and has lead FCA on campus for eight years.
?You don?t need to be an ?athlete? to come,? Gilmore said. ?If you care about athletics or even just watch sports, you should come.?
FCA meetings are open to all students, not just athletes who compete on a sports team, although, loving or learning to love God, is a prerequisite.
During the FCA meeting Shirley addressed his listeners by asking if there were any aspects in their life that they are just getting by. He then asked if they were ready and willing to change and be passionate about God??
Shirley challenged the students to commit to being on fire for God. He followed up with elements of his testimony, which included his decision to devote his life to God.
FCA meets twice a month in room 604 during lunch, where they eat and are encouraged by Christian athletes.
The next two FCA meetings are schedualed for Oct. 18 and Nov. 2. Former Fresno State linebacker, Bill Costa will speak at the Oct. 18 meeting while students can enjoy and sub-sandwich for $3.
