Community members gather for the 23rd annual 9/11 Memorial Service in Clovis, California. Fresno Christian Chamber Choir and Feather students join the Fresno/Clovis community to honor those who served on Sept. 11.
For the first year, FC Chamber Choir was invited to sing at the biggest 9/11 memorial on this side of the Mississippi. They performed “America the Beautiful,” “My Country Tis of Thee” and “God Bless America.”
The ceremony started with recordings of the dispatch calls on 9/11. Then police officers, firefighters, and army personnel raised a salute to the flag.
Guest speaker George Martin, who is a New York Giants NFL Superbowl champion and author of “Just Around the Bend – My Journey For 9/11,” spoke on his journey of walking from George Washington Bridge in Manhattan to Embarcadero Park in San Diego, to raise awareness for Flight of Rescue and recovery workers from 9/11.
The program concluded with a flag-folding ceremony as the audience learned about the reasons for the 13 folds and hanging wreaths, which were designed to honor each group of first responders who had fallen.
