34th District Congressman Vince Fong visited Fresno Christians’ U.S. history class to answer students’ questions about politics and current hot topics, Nov. 1.
California Congressman Vince Fong has served in Congress since 2016, initially representing the 34th congressional district and now campaigning for District 20 which encompasses parts of Kern, Tulare, Kings and Fresno counties. Fong met history teacher Kori James in Washington D.C. on the House floor, while she was aboard CV Honor Flight #29. Fong’s interest in speaking with her students includes his nephew, Owen Gailey, ’26.
Currently Fong serves on the Committee of Science, Space and Technology which peaked the interest of students when topics about Elon Musk, Space Force and Chinese satellites was discussed.
Sophomore Jake Thompson expressed his gratitude towards his experience getting to know a congressman personally and better understand government policies.
“With Congressman Vince Fong in the room, it made me realize how significantly these policies affect me,” Thompson said.
This visit provided students with the opportunity to voice their concerns and ask questions about a multitude of topics that Fong was willing to partake in. Some topics included marijuana legalization, the border crisis and international affairs.
Wren Klein,’27, used Fong’s visit to observe and obtain new information while he answered her classmates’ questions.
“It was cool to see someone in a position of power’s share opinions on all of the hot topics in the world,” Klein said.
Vince Fong won the CA US House General Election District 20 against Mike Boudreaux with 65.2% of the votes and will continue serving under the new Trunp administration.
