As Joseph Biden exits the White House with a 36% approval rating, the Trump team comes in blazing full-steam ahead into the next four years. Trump is a name that resonates across continents, commands attention, sparks debate and rewrites the ideas of leadership. From Mar-a-lago to the Oval Office, he has been a dealmaker, businessman and political trailblazer, transforming the Republican Party and redefining modern presidential politics. For the second time, Donald J. Trump was inaugurated as president of the United States, Jan. 20.
Inauguration Day began with a procession to the Capitol, the swearing-in ceremonies of Vice President JD Vance and President Trump, which took place inside the Capitol Rotunda due to harsh weather conditions. Trump gave his Inaugural Address that focused on the future growth, unity and security of the United States. This year, the Inauguration ceremony included live performances from country singer Carrie Underwood and opera tenor Christopher Macchio.
This Inauguration was one for the history books with Trump signing more than 200 executive actions, which is 12 times the amount that any president has ever signed on day one. Traditionally, the president will sign executive orders in private, but not President Trump; he signed orders in front of a crowd of 20,000 people in Capital One Arena.
Some orders that Trump signed into office on day one included protecting women’s spaces, designating drug cartels as foreign terrorist groups, declaring a national energy crisis and ending DEI programs.
Carrying out executive orders requires help from Trump’s presidential cabinet, which is his official advisory board that is put together in between election and Inauguration. The cabinet has to be approved by the US Senate in a series of hearings. Some cabinet members, who have not all been confirmed, include Marco Rubio, Kristi Noem, Pete Hegseth, Pam Bondi and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Trump has implemented the new Department of Government Efficiency, which is run by billionaire Elon Musk and politician/entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. Citizens wonder what real authority the department would have since it is not a cabinet-level position along with Musk having a conflict of interest. Despite the doubts, President Trump has high hopes for the new advisory committee.
“Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure federal agencies,” Trump said. “Essential to the ‘Save America’ movement.”
So far, the Trump Administration has been boldly tackling international issues with jurisdiction. Trump is currently aiming to dismantle the crisis in Ukraine within the next few months as well as continuing to get American hostages released from the hands of Hamas. When it comes to security on the home front, Trump plans to launch the largest deportation movement in American history by deporting illegal aliens, limiting asylum applications, closing the Southern border and declaring the issue a national emergency.
President Trump’s return to the White House marks a bold and transformative era in American politics. His administration aims to continue to tackle national and international issues for the betterment of the United States.
