Starbucks is a popular coffee shop worldwide, offering numerous drinks and food items to customers. Starbucks has clientele across 80 countries as well as 32,000 cafes and drive-thrus. Starbucks is known for its specialty drinks and food choices, which will be greatly reduced on March 4. Starbucks has announced that 13 drinks are being removed from the menu due to their lack of popularity.
The goal of eliminating these drinks is to increase quality and time efficiency for customers. Less variety means quicker orders.
The drinks that will be removed from the menu are:
-Iced Matcha Lemonade
-Espresso Frappuccino
-Caffe Vanilla Frappuccino
-Java Chip Frappuccino
-White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino
-Chai Creme Frappuccino
-Carmel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino
-Double Choclately Chip Creme Frappuccino
-Chocolate Cookie Crumble Creme Frappuccino
-White Chocolate Creme Frappuccino
-White Hot Chocolate
-Royal English Breakfast Latte
-Honey Almondmilk Flat White
Along with the removal of the designated drinks, the company is also planning to lay off around 1,100 of its employees. Starbucks has recently faced a decrease in sales and anticipates that decreasing the number of employees and drinks will help increase revenue along with the efficiency of the employees.
Although some of the drinks will be gone, there are customizations you can add to similar drinks to create a new drink like the old one. With ingredients, syrups, powders, and cold foams, many people think that removing the drinks won’t save time.
Students throughout the United States purchase items from Starbucks multiple times per week. Many students have grown accustomed to the current menu and don’t see a point in changing it. Frequent Starbucks visitor and senior Angel Bunker ponders if changing the menu is a necessity for the business.
“I don’t think they even need to change the menu. It seems pointless to me, “ Bunker said. “You can still order similar drinks wth just more specialized ingredients which takes even longer with all the added on customizations. To my understanding, it’s not saving much time, if any at all.”
