Many love coffee as their go-to drink, and pick me up in the morning. There are plenty of coffee shops in Fresno, such as the Frappe House, Dutch Bros, and Starbucks, which are local favorites. They all bring decent coffee to the table, but most use syrups you can buy off a shelf and roasted coffee beans. That’s where the Otherside coffee comes in with a different take: quality ingredients, unique menu and personal service.

Kevin Koligian, one of the owners and founders of Otherside Cafe, already owns two successful restaurants in town – Butterfish and Heirloom.
“You know, we don’t want items that are too far out there, too exotic to really be enjoyed by everyone,” Koligian said. “So we’re trying to balance unique flavors, but still be approachable.”
Entering the cafe, you’re invited into a modern, yet comfortable aesthetic with padded bench seating and stools inside. Outside on the patio, there are tables and chairs for another seating option. The cafe is relaxing and inviting, but the lack of outlets discourages long homework/work sessions. If that’s your goal in a coffee shop, this is not the place. The Otherside Cafe is great as a hangout spot.
Prices are decent, but not cheap. Two drinks and a monkey bread after 20 percent tip and tax cost $20.54 for my friend and me.
The people serving were friendly and helpful, even bringing our food and drinks out to us. The service feels like a mix between a restaurant and a neighborhood coffeeshop.

Taste is exceptional at The Otherside with flavors that are unique but not overpowering or weird. The Spiced Ube Latte drink was my favorite and one of their most unique. Ube is a starch root vegetable, like a purple yam with a sweet nutty flavor, that’s gaining popularity in national cuisine.
The food is also high quality as to be expected from the owners of Heirloom and Butterfish. With a wide variety of options, The Otherside Cafe isn’t just a good coffee spot but also a great place to grab a meal. It has options like donuts, breakfast burritos and toast for breakfast to sandwiches, wraps, and soups for lunch and dinner.
The Otherside Cafe is a great date spot with a modern, but chill atmosphere, with memorable food and tasty coffee. My girlfriend, who loves a good coffee, will enjoy a date there. I would definitely recommend it as a date spot.
