For the first time in campus history, the performing arts program will be having a joint concert. The Concert for the Performing Arts will feature performances by the high school ensemble, concert choir, concert band, jazz band and the drama class on March 21.
“This concert is a way for the performing arts program to come together,” Marc Ferguson, choir director, said. “It is a way for the students to be able to support each other by performing together.”
Many of the pieces selected for this concert allows the different areas to perform together.
“At this concert, the band will be playing with the choir for a few of the songs,” Paul McEntee, band director, said. “The band playing along with the choir makes the piece more interesting for the students to learn and it also makes the piece more fun to perform.”
During the concert, there will also be a combined performance from the drama and ensemble.
“Drama will be performing a one act play called Devotion where we will be accompanied by the ensemble,” Tom McEntee, drama teacher, said. “We are excited and also a little nervous about this performance because the choir and band have a standard that we have to live up to. I feel that it is a big honor to be able to participate in this concert.”
Many feel that the joint performance between drama and ensemble will bring a new twist to the concert.
“I think that performing with drama is going to be interesting because it has never been done before,” Jillian Childress, ’02, said. “Performing together makes it more interesting for the audience because it combines visual performance along with musical performance.”
The performances begin at 7:00 p.m. The concert will be located at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Fresno. Tickets are available from choir, band, and drama students or they are also available in the high school office. The ticket price is $5.00. For more on ticket information, call 297-9464 ext. 131.
