UPDATE:
A representative from Fresno Pacific University will be on campus, Dec. 4, at 9 A.M. Juniors and seniors that are interested in FPU must sign up with Jon Endicott, associate principal, to attend the presentation.
While early application deadlines loom, seniors planning for a post-high school education are beginning to focus on college choices.
Administration plans to host three more colleges in the coming months: Fresno Pacific University (FPU), California State University, Fresno (CSUF) and Fresno City College (FCC) sometime in winter or early spring.
FPU will pay their annual visit to showcase their programs and lead the high school chapel in Ground Zero with their choral group, the Crosswinds Chorale on Nov. 20.
Former Feather editor-in-chief, Brianna Stobbe, ’06, will visit campus with FPU as a member of Crosswinds.
“I am excited to see some old friends,” Stobbe said, “and sing in Ground Zero. I can’t believe it has already been over a year since I attended. I love practicing and performing with Crosswinds. Most of my friends at school are in the group with me and I enjoy practices as much as performances. My time at Fresno Pacific University has been amazing. Students can have relationships with professors and many end up being your friends.”
Melanie Nachtigall, ’08, has a history of family members attending the local private school and is planning on attending next fall.
“I am going to go to Fresno Pacific, because my entire family has gone there,” Nachtigall said. “I always knew I was going to go there, because of the tradition of going there and money and support that I will receive from my grandparents and church.”
Many who plan to attend FPU credit their decision to the university’s close location to home, and the ability to expand their religious knowledge.
“I want also want to go there because it’s close to home,” Nachtigall said. “I already know people there, so it would be more comfortable than other colleges.?
FPU started as a one-building institute in 1944, but now boasts a 40-acre campus that hosts approximately 2000 students each year.
“I think Christian colleges are a good option for the students because it gives them a good Christian perspective,” Jon Endicott, associate principal, said. “It’s important to integrate faith and scripture. There can be more advantages of Christian colleges than non-Christian.”
Endicott confirms that although dates are unavailable, FCC and CSUF will visit campus.
“I think it is good that even the freshman can go online to college websites and see what is out there,” Endicott said. “They can see how hard they need to work, and the seniors see that their hard work isn’t for nothing, and that it is paying off.”
