Forty-one-year-old Joe Flacco just had one of the best games he’s had in a while, starting as the Bengals quarterback. He threw for 342 yards against the Steelers and three touchdowns. Flacco is just one example of an outstanding quarterback who has endured 18 seasons and made a name for himself. He isn’t even in the top ten this season.

Quarterbacks are a key position because they make the decisions and are the only position to throw the ball downfield. If no receiver is open downfield, a mobile quarterback runs the ball for yards. Quarterbacks also have to avoid the pressure from the other team’s defensive line.
The following are my top picks for quarterbacks to watch in the 2025 season:
10. Dak Prescott – Cowboys
This year, Dak Prescott has been very solid, even though his team is 3-3-1. He has put up good numbers, throwing 16 touchdowns and three interceptions. He has also thrown for 1,881 yards and holds a 107% passer rating. He has been a top-tier quarterback this year, ranking 2nd in the league for passing yards and 2nd in total touchdowns, but he did have a rough day against the Bears, throwing 251 yards but two interceptions. He has been a top 10 quarterback this year, in my opinion.
9. Drake Maye – Patriots
This year alone, Drake Maye has played a lot better compared to last season. A lot of people, including myself, would think this year would be a “sophomore slump”, but despite various expectations, he has improved this year. He has thrown ten touchdowns and only two interceptions this season and 1,744 passing yards, and a 116% rating, which is a very impressive ranking, 3rd overall in passer rating. The Patriots are improving drastically from last year, going from a 1-6 record in week eight to 5-2. Drake Maye is proving just how much he belongs in the league.
Ty Medirios,’27, has been a Patriots fan since he was a kid and is very happy about the team’s success this year.
“My favorite part about Drake Maye is that when he gets out of the pocket, he can extend the play and look for the open man downfield,” Medirios said. “I think that Drake Maye can lead the Patriots to a playoff or wild card berth this season.”
8. Jordan Love – Packers
Jordan Love has played better so far than he did last season. The Packers this season are 4-1-1. He has thrown for 1,259 yards, 10 touchdowns, and two interceptions, which is very impressive. He also has an impressive 108% passer rating. He had a great game against the Cowboys, throwing for 337 yards and three touchdowns. He has been very good this season, leading the Packers to be dangerous contenders.
Alex Asatrian,’27, has played football his entire life while cheering on the Packers every year.
“I like how calm Jordan Love is,” Asatrian said. “He sat behind Aaron Rodgers for a couple of years, and he has developed very well under pressure. I think Love can lead us to a deep playoff run; it’s just if the defense could play a little better.”

7. Mathew Stafford – Rams
Mathew Stafford, one of the oldest players in the league, still makes my top 10. The Rams are 5-2 this year, and Stafford has thrown for 1,866 yards, with 17 touchdowns to only two interceptions and a 106% passer rating. Stafford has had some great games this season, like against the Colts and Titans, where he combined in those two games for 604 yards and four touchdowns. Despite his age, he has remained a top 10 QB and has one of the top performance rates in the NFL.
6. Jared Goff – Lions
Jared Goff had high expectations going into this year after getting 15 wins last season. Entering his fifth season with the team, Goff has led the Lions to an impressive 5-2 record. He has played very well, throwing for 1,631 yards, 15 touchdowns, and three interceptions with a 120% passer rating. He had some good games this season against the Bears, with five touchdowns, and a good game against the Ravens, throwing for 202 yards and a touchdown.
5. Baker Mayfield – Buccaneers
Baker Mayfield, who played very well with the Buccaneers the last two seasons, has lived up to the hype once again. The Buccaneers are 5-1 this season, and four out of five games they won came at the last second. Baker Mayfield has thrown 1,767 yards, throwing 13 touchdowns and only one interception with a 108% passer rating.
4. Justin Herbert – Chargers
The Chargers and Justin Herbert had a bad way to end last season, getting blown out against the Texans in the wild card, but this year, the Chargers are 5-3. Justin Herbert this season has thrown for 1,913 yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions, and he has a 94% passer rating.
3. Lamar Jackson – Ravens
The Ravens are off to a bad start this season, with a 1-5 record, including blowing a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter. Lamar Jackson is currently injured, as he has been out due to a hamstring injury since Week 4, but when he is in prime condition, he is a top 3 QB in the league. This year, Jackson has thrown for a total of 869 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 1 interception. He also has a 130% passer rating. Jackson, once fully healthy, looks to bring the Ravens back to their old identity and establish their goal as a team.
2. Patrick Mahomes – Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes may have the highest expectations due to his dominance in big games. This year, the Chiefs are 4-3, a little disappointing start for the Chiefs after their 15-2 record last season. Mahomes has thrown for 1,800 yards, 14 touchdowns, and two interceptions with a 102% passer rating. Mahomes has been an efficient quarterback, but a disappointing start to the season for the Chiefs.
Arjun Patel,’28, has been a Chiefs fan since their heartbreaking AFC Championship loss in 2019.
“My favorite part of Patrick Mahomes is his scrambling ability and how he can extend the play outside of the pocket,” Patel said. “I think he can lead us to a Super Bowl this year.”
1. Josh Allen – Bills
Will this be the year the Bills get past the Chiefs in the playoffs? Last year’s MVP, Josh Allen, has had a strong start to this year, throwing for 1,514 yards, 11 touchdowns, and four interceptions, along with a 108% passer rating. The Bills are currently 4-2, starting their season off strong. Coming fresh off their bye week, they aim to keep pushing forward with full steam ahead.
As the NFL season continues, established veterans and emerging star quarterbacks continue to reshape the game’s landscape. With playoff races and division rivalries heating up week by week, expect even more star-studded, thrilling matchups to present themselves.
