While some may have joined California Scholarship Federation (CSF) with the intention of minimal work, in order to boost their college resume, club members now battle against each other for one coveted prize.
This year, adviser Molly Sargent separated members into different committees. The fundraising committee, led by senior co-presidents Jennifer Sherfield and Mary Kneefel, plans to begin their first fundraiser of the second semester on Jan. 28, to provide each life member with a scholarship at graduation.
?The life members are the same thing as seal bearers,? Sargent said. ?To be a life member you have to have been in CSF for four of six semesters of high school, not including freshmen semesters.”
CSF members will sell vouchers to Sal?s Mexican Restaurant for a dozen enchiladas (shredded beef, chicken or cheese) or bean and cheese burritos. Money raised will be for year-end scholarships.
“Mary and I explored a lot of different fundraising options,” Sherfield said, “but we wanted one that could benefit an entire family. The good thing about the vouchers is that they do not expire and it fits any schedule and it’s good quality.”
Although a dozen regularly costs $25.99, CSF will sell the same amount for $18 and a special offer of two-dozen for $30.
?We want to turn the fundraiser into a class competition,? Kneefel said. ?Underclassmen will try to earn more off-campus privileges, while we are still trying to find the award for the seniors. I think the seniors will win because the money goes towards our scholarships.”
The fundraiser is estimated to last four to six weeks. If interested look for CSF members for more information.
