While the French may have perfected the art of dueling, Scott Callisch, head of the PE department, has given new meaning to the formal attack. Since it’s appearance seven years ago to the guys’ PE units, fencing has seemed to become a hit.
“I decided to incorporate fencing into PE, because I thought it was an unusual sport that kids do not get to usually do,” Callisch said. “I am going to continue to have fencing because it is a good unit and is a successful one.”
On their return back to school from Christmas break the boys appeared surprised to find fencing lessons and duels for three weeks, Jan. 7-26.
“I thought fencing was really fun,” Daniel Kaiser, ’08, said. “I always enjoyed fighting with weapons and it was a sport that I have never done before.”
After Callisch taught the boys different techniques, each were able to fight their own duels.
“I had fun fencing, because I like man-to-man combat sports,” Josh Smith, ’11, said. “I really hope that we continue to fence, because I thought it was a lot of fun.”

I am also a part of the Bach Youth Chorale, and I agree with Suzanna. Singing at the survivors’ ceremony is such an inspiring experience; seeing all the women who have battled through cancer and won definitely makes me thankful for the blessings I have.
