Looking for some fun, excitement and a chance to show off your insane golf skills? The campus golf team is hosting their first annual “Slashin’ Clash of the Titans” golf tournament at Riverpark Golf Center (par-3 course), March 10, 6 P.M.
“The original purpose was to raise money for the golf program,” head coach Jeff Hopper said, “but later we realized that we wouldn’t be able to raise that much. Now it is an inter-mural event to raise awareness abut golf on campus. When you are a new small program on campus, it helps just to let people know that you’re out there.”
The event is open not only to all the sports programs on campus, but also to any other groups such as band, choir or yearbook. Two groups may also merge together to created a team comprised of their best four golfers.
Though they are not allowed to participate, the eight members of the golf team along with coach Hopper will be stationed one to a hole and will step in to finish the hole for any team exceeding 4 strokes.
An additional perk of the tournament are the various prizes that will be awarded for contests such as closest to the pin, and overall low team.
“We have a brand new trophy for this event with no team names on it yet,” Hopper said. “The winners will always be able to say they were the first inter-mural golf champions.”
The format will be a variation of a scramble, which conveniently means that each team will only need one pair of clubs between them.
Finally with a cost of only $12.50 per player ($50 per team), this tournament can not be beat in the price category. This will include a 9-hole round, practice balls, dinner and a lasting memory. Money should be turned in to athletic director Chris Schultz by March 7.
