Parades, competitions and a fair, oh my!
The marching band and color guard will head to the Caruthers Fair to participate in a marching competition, Oct. 3. New director Michael Ogdon is busy preparing for his first parade, which will pit the band against several other marching bands.
“We’ve been working toward this first parade for a month and a half,” Ogdon Said. “I’m eager to see our school, and our Lord, represented in our extended community. I am also nervous to see how a band of 20 stacks up against bands of 100!”
Stepping off at 10 a.m., the group must arrive at school by 7:15 in order to be prepared to load up the bus to make the half-hour drive to the competition.
Although most of the band students have marched in a parade before, some still find it nerve-wracking to march in front of a panel of judges. Majorette Jessica Massie, ’11, says she still finds it scary.
“Of course I still get nervous,” Massie said. “But I love what I do and I have faith that we will do great. I know it is our first parade so a lot of people are nervous, but I know we can do it!”
Many of the band members are also planning on remaining in Caruthers to take in the rides, food booths, entertainment, livestock buildings and carnival games.
