In order to supplement news-producing methods, The Feather Online will introduce a video news segment called FC Underground, Jan. 25. The segment will be produced weekly by editor-in-chief Suzanna Quiring, who will host the program, and senior Paige Powell, who will film and edit.
Quiring says the idea for the project came from an old video productions segment hosted by alumnus Phil Unruh, ’06.
“When I was a freshman I was in video productions with Phil Unruh and a lot of other guys,” Powell said. “He would host FC Underground and they made it really fun. I really missed it and wanted to bring it back.”
The old program was also inspiration for Quiring, who plans to convert the comedy to a combination comedy-serious news medium.
“There used to be a video series called ‘FC Underground’ which was a news show parody,” Quiring said. “We took that concept and made it more serious in order to add to our news coverage. We already have podcasting, slideshows and other videos, but this is a great way to increase our coverage.”
According to Quiring, new technology is required in order for The Feather to keep up with changing news services.
“This is our way of staying competitive,” Quiring said. “The cool thing is that we’ll be able to add video interviews, sports footage and ‘fun stuff’ that will be unique to FC Underground. The first edition will feature simple announcements and a commercial.”
