The high school winter guard team will hold preseason tryouts after school from 6-8 p.m. on Dec. 10 and 11 in the Peoples Church gym. According to members, no experience is necessary for the open auditions.
Coach Lacey Miranda says the purpose of these auditions is “to show people how fun winter guard is and how easy it would be to learn.”
“Anyone who is interested can come and try it out,” Miranda said. “Coming to auditions and joining the team do not have to be together. It is an open audition for people just to see what winter guard is about and see if they would be interested in joining for the season.”
Majorette Jessica Massie, ’11, will be joining the team for the upcoming winter guard season. She says that she is excited for a new chance to compete.
“I cannot wait for the season to start,” Massie said. “We have some really awesome ideas for the new year and I cannot wait to see how they play out in the show. I am hoping that we see a lot of new faces. Last year, we had almost ten new people sign up; I hope we have a good turn out again this year.”
Captain Ileana See, ’14, looks forward to the season with new members.
“Last year, we had a ton of people show up for auditions,” See said. “It was a lot of fun to see their faces light up when they got a dance sequence or a flag routine right. It was amazing last year; the guard became a family and I hope it is like this year. It makes it so much more fun.”
