With school starting up again, many students will fall back into their regular school routines. For some students, this regimen is fast-paced and stressful, leaving little time for prayer and spiritual emphasis.
In order to break this cycle, senior Tyler Revis has proposed the entire student body participate in a fast during the first week of the second semester.
Revis says that God placed the idea of fasting on his heart while he spoke the student body.
“I do not think that I started the fast,” Revis said. “It was Spirit-led. I didn’t plan on suggesting a fast, but when I got on stage it just came out of my mouth.”
According to Revis, fasting-abstaining from food in order to pray-breaks everyday habits, and assists in building a consistent prayer life.
“I believe fasting leads to spiritual discipline and helps build our prayer lives,” Revis said. “Fasting causes us some discomfort because it breaks our normal routine, it reminds us to pray.”
While the proposal was spontaneous, Revis says he hopes it will bring change to the campus.
“While the school fasts I hope to see God move in all of our lives,” Revis said. “I would like to see people try fasting for the first time, even if it is something other than food. I hope people really attempt to get to a new place in their relationship with the Lord.”
