With their final year of high school coming to an end, many seniors look forward to the upcoming senior retreat at Calvin Crest, Sept. 11 and 12.
The class of 2011 should arrive at the high school parking lot by 9:30 a.m. to depart at 10. After spending the night at camp, the seniors will return to campus around 2 p.m. on Sept. 12.
Seniors must turn in their signed parent consent forms to their English teacher by Sept. 10.
This annual retreat has been a tradition for several years, becoming known for activities such as girls wrestling, night hikes and flume rides.
“The senior retreat is a long-standing tradition at Fresno Christian,” Molly Sargent, academic adviser, said. “It gives seniors the opportunity to get acquainted with others in their class, some of whom they may never have had the chance to get to know.”
During the retreat, students will be arranged into different teams for activities. Senior Frank Daniel is looking forward to hanging out with classmates he does not regularly spend time with.
“I won’t be buddying up with my best friends during the retreat,” Daniel said. “I’m looking forward to spending time with people I don’t know very well.”
The retreat is stocked with activities aimed at stimulating class bonding. Sargent hopes memories and relationships made during the retreat will endure past the students’ senior year.
“[Seniors have the opportunity to] develop a connection with their peers that will outlive their last year of high school,” Sargent said. “The leaders hope to establish a tone of unity and spiritual growth within the class.”
