UPDATE: After performing at Buchanan, the winter guard team aimed to impress the judges at Clovis North on Feb. 26. Despite the members’ effots, including having after-school and night practices, they placed 6th out of six possible places.
Although their score was raised by 8.4, with a total score of 67.8 points, it was not enough to gain a spot in the top three. Golden West placed first in the group of six guards competing with a total of 79.8 points, 12 points above the FC team.
Next, the guard will perform at Clovis East High School, March 12. The time of performance will be announced at a later date. Admission is $8 for general admission and $5 for students.

The winter guard team will be performing at Clovis North on Feb. 26 at 5:38 p.m., following the group from Golden West.
This show will feature more competitors than previous exhibitions, including Clovis High, Arroya, Buchanan and Hanford.
Although winter guard members have been practicing and performing every other Friday, a coveted spot in the top three still eludes them. At the last two shows, held at Clovis East and Buchanan, they placed 6th and 5th, respectively.
Despite the fact that her team has yet to receive a trophy this season, captain Jessica Massie, ’11, remains optimistic.
“We may not have the trophies to show it, but the team has been working so hard,” Massie said. “Some of the girls go home almost every day, even after we just had a three- or four-hour practice, and practice some more. We all work so hard and, even though we do not yet have a trophy to show for it, I am very confident that the judges will see it in this next show.”
In order to help the team advance in its class, coach Lacey Miranda has adjusted the routine in various ways.
“We changed almost everything,” Miranda said. “We changed the drill and the work, so I am anxious to see how everything turns out. I am looking forward to seeing the girls step up their performance. Also, we will hopefully have our uniforms, and they will add a whole new element.”
After this show, the guard only has two more competitions this season, one at Clovis East on March 12 and the championships at Clovis North on March 26.
Admission to the Feb. 26 show is $5 for students and $8 for general admission.
