On a free afternoon, my mom and I made our way to River Park to try the newly opened Five Guys Burgers and Fries. I expected a formal style from the restaurant, but was pleasantly surprised to come across a casual atmosphere.
As as we arrived at the building, I was impressed with the array of potato sacks lining the entrance. There were many reviews and quotes from Florida Monthly and The Tampa Tribune which, when paired with plain and bland decor, provided a modern look for the room. It was painted with a light shade of brown and embellished with red and white checkered squares.
The room’s arrangement was similar to that of a fast-food restaurant, and the menu was conveniently simple. The options featured 100-percent fresh beef, and everything was cooked in peanut oil to reduce the cholesterol content.
In addition to burgers, Five Guys also serves a variety of hot dogs, sandwiches and fries. Prices range from $3 for a small hamburger, hot dog or a sandwich, to $6 for a massive cheeseburger.
Once we reached the front of the line, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger for $5.89, and my mom ordered a cheese veggie sandwich for $4.89. In addition, we purchased an order of fries for $2.69. Although we only bought one order, there were plenty of fries for both of us.
A couple minutes after ordering, my number was called, and the meal was handed to me. I removed the tinfoil and discovered the burger stuffed with all kinds of condiments, such as mustard, tomatoes, ketchup and lettuce. As we enjoyed our food, my mom and I read the wall of reviews from a seat in the corner.
Five Guys Burgers and Fries impressed me with its appealing atmosphere and delicious food. The only downside was the heat beating down on us as we ate.
The building seemed to lack air conditioning, so only open doors were used to reduce the heat. Although ceiling fans were on, their only accomplishment was blowing around warm air.
Despite the temperature issue, I would go back to the restaurant any day. Five Guys Burger and Fries is a perfect restaurant for anyone who loves American cuisine.
