On a Sunday afternoon, my family and I walked into Eureka! Burger with high expectations. Having previewed the menu online, we were very anxious to try what they had to offer.
As we entered, we were greeted with a very interesting decor. Every wall was covered in panels, and the largest wall had very large, frameless, modern photography hanging from it. Coming down from the ceiling there were very large and exposed metal pipes.
Once we had sat down, my mother commented that the atmosphere was like “walking into a restaurant in the wine country,” somewhere she and my father visit frequently. My opinion is that it was rustic and modern at the same time. Minus the wood, it kind of reminded me of Chipotle.
After being seated immediately, our waitress took our drink order and gave us our menus. Even though there were so many things that sounded delicious, I decided on the turkey cobb burger: a turkey patty, blue cheese, bacon, avocado, onions, tomatoes and spicy porterhouse mustard with onion rings, instead of fries.
Even though our food took a little longer than we would have liked, about 25-30 minutes — it was well worth the wait. The burger was fairly thick, so I decided to cut it in half. However, it was not so big that it was cumbersome to eat — messy, but not difficult.
The burger tasted just as good as it looked. Despite the fact that it was turkey, the patty was juicy and delicious. The mustard was just spicy enough to give the burger a nice kick, without overpowering it. And the blue cheese tied it all together perfectly. I would order this again in a heartbeat.
The onion rings, however, I would not. Instead of getting several small rings, I received three giant ones. They were awkward to eat and needed to be cut in half. They were also a little bland, definitely not worth the $1.25 I was charged for the substitute. So, I resorted to stealing my mother’s fries, which were delicious and well-seasoned.
In addition to having a large variety of delicious burgers, including veggie, turkey and regular, they also offer many salads and other sandwiches. All sounded incredibly good.
Even though a burger is traditionally associated with ground beef, you can order any burger with a veggie, angus or turkey patty, for no additional charge. When you consider this with the variety of salads available, Eureka! Burger is completely vegetarian-friendly.
This restaurant is perfect for a casual lunch or dinner. However, be prepared to spend at least $10. Because the burgers are “gourmet,” they are a little on the pricy side — for a burger, anyway. But, when you consider that the burgers contain things like goat and blue cheese, arugula and even buffalo mozzarella, they are worth the extra money.
Because burgers seem to be the trendy thing lately, there are many places in Fresno that focus on burgers. Places such as In-N-Out and The Habit also boast having the best burgers.
But honestly, you cannot really compare these places to Eureka! Burger. The burgers are not made to be a quick and cheap meal — they are truly restaurant-quality. (However, The Habit does have better onion rings.)
For my myself, my mother and my brother, the tab came out to $39.95. This is not bad, considering they both ordered drinks, and my brother and I substituted our sides. Every entree on the menu is between $8-12, with the most expensive items priced at $11.25 and containing top sirloin.
Overall it was a great experience — I was very pleased with the food and atmosphere. The service could have been a little better, but it is a very new restaurant (3 weeks in business) and is probably still working out the kinks. I will definitely be returning and would recommend it to everyone.
