After almost three months of preparation, the choir will participate in the Westmont College Fall Choral Festival in Santa Barbara, Oct. 28-29.
The students will have a rehearsal shortly after they arrive on campus. Following the first rehearsal, they will retreat to the college dorms, where they will stay with members of the host choir.
“I hope the students get a new perspective on college life from staying in the dorms during this trip,” Michael Ogdon, music director, said. “I hope this opens their eyes and allows them to see beyond where they are at. I really hope it allows them to see the value in a Christian college education.”
On the following day, students will have a mass choir rehearsal in preparation for a performance at 7 p.m. that evening. During this rehearsal, they will practice with all the other choirs attending the event.
The FC choir will perform its own repertoire at the earlier concert at 4:30 p.m. Students will arrive back in Fresno at around 1 a.m., Oct. 30.
Sophomore Katherine Bennett believes the choir will perform satisfactorily at the event, but thinks that having more time to practice their songs would have been beneficial, she said.
“I feel that our own list of songs could be better prepared, but I am confident that we will perform to our very best ability,” Bennett said. “I am very proud of what our choir has accomplished in such a short amount of time and with the large amount of new people in the group.”
