EAGLES END SEASON WITH LOSS TO SIERRA CANYON–March 10
After coming off of their state playoff win, FC traveled to the San Fernando valley to face off with the No. 1 seeded Sierra Canyon. The Eagles had the support of their own students who traveled down on a rooter bus to cheer on their team. In the end, Sierra Canyon outmatched the Eagles, defeating them, 83-35, March 10.
Going into the game, the Eagles knew they would be playing one of the best teams they have ever faced. Even though the loss marked the end of their season, Head Coach Josh Justin says his team conducted themselves in an honorable way.
?Sierra Canyon was one of the best all around high school teams that I have ever seen,? Justin said. ?They were a very talented team, and their size made it very difficult for us to score. We played extremely hard, but in the end they were just too much for us. The boys gave it their all and handled the loss well.?
Sierra executed a full court press from the start of the game. The Eagles struggled to score early in the game. At the end of the first quarter, Sierra led 31-11.
Senior Zack Jackson liked playing at a higher level of competition. He feels like he contributed solid minutes to the game.
“I enjoyed the game a lot because it was fun to compete against a team at that level,” Jackson said. “It was fun watching them dunk on us. Even though we lost, I had the best minutes I think of all the games I’ve played. I got two blocks, which made me satisfied that it was a great season, and an experience I’ll never forget.
Coach Justin shares his feelings on the overall season. He expresses gratitude for being able to coach his players.
?Overall it was an amazing season with lots of memories that I will never forget,? Justin said. ?I am truly thankful to have been given the opportunity to coach such an amazing group of young men. I enjoyed getting to work with and getting to know each member of this team.?
Sierra continued to pressure the Eagles on defense. On offense they proved to be a powerhouse in the paint. Sierra also could shoot the ball from the outside, hitting many of their three’s. Going into half-time Sierra was up, 51-21.
Looking back on the season, Coach Justin remembers the trials and triumphs. From bonding on road trips to winning a Valley Championship, Justin says these are things he will always remember.
?We shared numerous experiences including exciting wins, tough defeats, road trips, and all sorts of laughs,? Justin said. ?I know that I will never forget these experiences. The boys played hard all season and in the end
