Through their show, The Bible in 30 Minutes … Or Less! by Anton Bucher, the junior high drama class provides the chance to get through Bible stories in a fast-paced performance.
The production will be presented in chapel for both junior high and high school students on Jan. 27. Another performance will be held Jan. 28 in Ground Zero, beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Having read through the Bible and visited Israel, junior instructor Susan Ainley considers the show to be a clever one for her class to perform.
“About four years ago I read the Bible all the way though, and a year after that, I took a trip to Israel and saw the Holy Land for myself,” Ainley said. “I think the junior high drama class does a great job of presenting major characters of the Bible in a fun way.”
The comedic play will take audience members through some lighter moments of biblical history, incorporating references from modern culture, including movies, and popular YouTube videos.
Through this production, eighth grade student Caitlin Gaines sees potential for an engaging show. The concept is an amusing way to entertain an audience with the Bible, she said.
“When you read through the Old Testament, you usually get bored because it’s very dry,” Gaines said. “But we make it really funny and enjoyable. It’s really funny and [is] a good summary of the whole Bible.”
Due to the class’s size and the personalities of the students, Gaines believes that the junior high group is able to put a twist on the show.
“We have a small class, so we all have several parts in the play,” Gaines said. “We all have our unique sense of humor.”
