Competition for athletes usually lasts anywhere from three to six months. During this time, players are asked to commit to practices and do whatever the coaches ask of them.
But not all competition is based on athletics. For sophomore Katie Barisic, competition is found not in running up and down the court or in physically exhausting herself on the field, but at her house or in the computer lab.
This is the beginning of Barisic’s fourth semester drawing “The Good Times,” a comic strip on The Feather. As she has now drawn over 250 comics, she continues to see improvement in her work.
“Over time, I find myself getting better in my drawing and coming up with better ideas,” Barisic said. “Sometimes when I come up with something really good, I think to myself, ‘How did I not come up with this before?'”
Newspaper adviser Greg Stobbe praises Barisic for her commitment to the paper, and sees her involvement in the newspaper as unique and personal.
