Dear editor:
There are many times that we do not understand why events bring so much pain and sorrow. Just recently one of our own: our sister, and our beloved friend, Paige Maltos, who passed away in a car accident this month.
When this news spread through Fresno Christian, our hearts were broken and tears were shed. Even though it is hard to understand this tragic accident, we need to have the faith that God has a plan. In retrospect, looking at this situation, I am noticing how much love people have for each other. At a time like this, it is easy to be filled with anger and not want to deal with reality, but instead everyone rallied around each other for comfort and support.
At Paige’s celebration of life, there were 1,000 people, including current and former teammates and officials, alumni, current students, teachers, friends and family. It’s so comforting to know that when you join Fresno Christian, you don’t just gain 200 peers — you gain 200 brothers and sisters. Even though we are small, we are like a close family that has each other’s back.
Paige was a force on and off the court; her presence, whether on the court or in the classroom, was rather stunning. As Christians, we need to keep reminding ourselves that Paige is in Paradise with our Savior. We need to keep our heads down and keep pumping through the obstacles life throws at us. We need to know that we have each other to lean on through thick and thin, including our Savior who never forgets about us.
Let us take time to reflect on Paige’s life through this difficult time. Think about all the great memories, basketball championships and the laughs we shared. But let us also take time to look into our own life.
Let’s ask ourselves, “Are we living life to the fullest?” We know Paige did just that; we can tell by seeing how many people’s lives she touched. We should strive to do the same for Paige, family, friends and ourselves.
