As the year comes to a close, the senior class prepares for both graduation and the senior trip. This year, graduation will be held in the Peoples Church sanctuary beginning at 7 p.m., followed by a reception in PC Gym, May 26.
After the seniors finish taking finals, the class will travel to Southern California to embark on the senior trip, May 19-21. During the trip, the senior class will spend time at the beach, Disneyland Resort and attend a Major League Baseball (MLB) game.
“I’m excited for senior trip because every senior I’ve talked to before thought it was a lot of fun,” Fatima Costa, ’11, said. “During the trip, we plan on going to Disneyland and shop; it’s going to be a lot of fun. Also, we are going to an Angles verses the Dodgers game, so I’m definitely wearing my Dodger gear.”
Along with Costa, senior Jacob Balderas thinks senior trip will be full of excitement and a great time to spend with friends.
“It’s just a lot fun to have one last trip with all of your friends before you graduate,” Balderas said. “This year, we will get to see the entire [MLB] game because one year there was a night game and they left early and that’s pretty awful to see half and then go home.”
Although many believe graduation to be a happy time for seniors, Costa has a different opinion regarding the ceremony.
“It’s weird to be graduating because I don’t feel that old,” Costa said. “I’ve watched people graduate before, but now that I’m doing it I don’t feel old at all. I’m happy to graduate because I’m sick of high school, but it feels like I’m moving on to another four years of high school.”
Aside from the student’s excitement, Principal Todd Bennett expects both the audience and the students graduating to be respectful during the ceremony.
“They [students] worked really hard for 13 years and this is a big deal,” Bennett said. “Most people go to their high school graduation and even though many people go to college, they don’t really go to there ceremony after high school. Also, being a private school it’s a big deal for their parents because their parents have invested a lot of money and time into their education.
“So I expect them to take it seriously and to be respectful on stage, it’s kind of a religious experience because we are in a chapel. So I expect the audience to be well behaved and the focus to be on those graduating.”
