Feeling the need to exercise spiritual leadership this year, senior Brady Lee aims to represent Christ in the school’s online networks. In order to accomplish this, Lee began writing
weekly online devotions, which attempt to unify the school by beginning the week with God in mind.
In each post, Lee brings up thought-provoking topics which encourage authentic Christian living. A new devotion will be posted every Monday on The Feather Blogoshpere and on a separate extension of the FC website .
This blog has been something Lee planned on doing all summer, so he expresses gratitude that God transformed his dream into reality and in return plans to commit each post for his glory.
“I promise to prayerfully commit each devotion to the Father,” Lee said. “My ultimate goal is that he would be glorified. I pray that readers would draw closer to God and your affections for him would be heightened.”
Unlike previous blogs, Lee’s posts act as a spiritual reflection pertaining to current events within the campus.
“The devotions are there to encourage and build up the community of believers at Fresno Christian,” Lee said. “I pray that people’s affections for Jesus would be heightened through reading them. It helps start the week off with our focus on God. I think that it adds all the more to the unity of FC.”
IT director David Martens came alongside Lee to aid this endeavor by teaching him how to manage the blog site, believing the posts to be a hidden treasure.
“It’s an opportunity to hear from a fellow student about spiritual things,” Martens said. “I think it will be a blessing to them. A lot of times we learn about spiritual things from people who are at a much higher level like adults, mentors or figures in our church like a pastor. But to hear from a peer, and see Brady’s thoughts about what’s happening at Fresno Christian from a Biblical perspective.”
By not constraining himself to writing on any specific theme or book of the Bible, Lee plans to be completely prompted by the words of Christ.
“Honestly, I am planning on writing about whatever God puts on my heart,” Lee said. “At first I was thinking about writing a devotion to go along with the weekly memory verse, but I didn’t want to be constrained to just those verses. I want to be Spirit-led in the whole endeavor.”
Recognizing the difficulties of school, especially her senior year, Kendall Wheeler appreciates Lee’s widespread encouragement.
“I think it’s cool that he’s doing a blog for the whole school that’s applicable to each week,” Wheeler said. “It’s helped me reign in my thoughts — since my school weeks can be kind of stressful — and to focus on God and what he wants from me.”
New to the high school environment, freshman Jenn Smith believes that the devotions will be helpful and sincere since they come from a fellow student.
“I think that it’ll help people personally because it has the weekly devotion,” Smith said. “I think it will because it’s coming from another student and Brady would know how students think.”
Principal Todd Bennet understands the power of peer influence, and feels Lee’s ability to decipher Scripture will impact fellow students.
“Our whole goal here is that by the time the kids are seniors for them to be able to defend their position as Christians,” Bennet said. “So when something comes up in life that they question, they know where to find the truth using the Bible, and Brady’s doing that with his devotions.”
While benefiting the student body, Lee finds that meditating on scripture and annotating information has allowed growth in his own personal spiritual life.
“It is refreshing for me to write the devotions,” Lee said. “It forces me to dig down deep into the Word of God. It can be difficult at times but it is a greatly rewarding process. I am learning more about God and how I can apply his truths to my life.”
