During seventh period, senior Chandler Vargas was introduced as the 2011-12 Associated Student Body President, Aug. 26. Following an election that occurred Aug. 25, votes were counted and tallied, revealing that Vargas won in a race against his fellow seniors, Dana King and Austin Rurik.
In his speech, Vargas stated his goal to represent the student body more effectively than previous years, leading the school to deepen their relationships through faith.
“Instead of just deciding things in class by what we want,” Vargas said. “I want to go out and ask people their opinion and what they would want before we make major decisions. Overall, I want to unify our school by our faith in Jesus Christ. I want to make this year as fun as possible for everyone.”
Student leadership adviser Robert Foshee puts confidence in Vargas’ resolve to bring about change with his energetic attitude.
“Chandler’s shown a lot of excitement so far about the school year. He really wants the theme for this year to come into play,” Foshee said. “In leadership we want to bring the school together through different school activities and service opportunities to make it a place where everyone will enjoy themselves and worship God in everything we do altogether on one campus.”
