VOLLEYBALL, 2011
BUCHANAN DEFEATS EAGLES, 3-0–Sept. 21
FC’s varsity team traveled to play the Buchanan Bears to play their junior varsity team, Sept. 21. During the first game, the Eagles kept the score close but lost, 25-23. Buchanan dominated the second game as the Eagles struggled, losing 25-8. The Bears came out on top once again in the third game, 25-14, to win 3-0.
FC’s setter Bri Graff, ’13, says that they should have won the game if they were willing to communicate to each other and stay positive. Since the Eagles are in Division V, playing a Division I team may be a huge jump, but Graff believes that the division of the opposite team does not matter as long as the team is able to focus and try their best.
“Although I am disappointed that we lost, I think we would have done better if we had better communications skills,” Graff said.” And we should have encouraged each other more. But playing a Division I team wasn’t that different from playing our usual division.”
According to Annaleah Madison, ’14, volleyball is a mental game more than anything else. And the team needs to unite as one.
“Playing the JV team was an interesting experience,” Madison said. “Their team was not that hard but we realized that we need to get our heads in the right spot.”
Head coach Jeff MacNeill, says that despite the loss, as long as the team is doing their best, he will be satisfied.
“Even at the highest level, I have not met a team without flaws,” MacNeill said, “Our team needs to work on some areas but every team has room for improvements. And it does not matter who is on the other side of the court we are still gonna be strong.”
The Eagles will next host Riverdale for their first league game of the season, Oct. 4.
