As a first year varsity football player, senior Austin Rurik was nominated for KMJ’s “Big Man on Campus” competition. Rurik received this recognition after a record breaking game against the Minarets Mustangs, (O’Neals, CA).
During the high school football season, KMJ nominates local football players weekly based on game performance. Rurik is competing in Week Four of the “Big Man on Campus” against three other players from schools around the Valley. Currently, Rurik is winning in the poll.
In last week’s game, Rurik rushed 25 times for a total of 304 yards, scoring four touchdowns for FC. The Eagles beat the Mustangs, 61-38.
“I didn’t even know I was nominated so it’s a pretty awesome honor,” Rurik said. “Just being nominated for something in probably the first time of my life is pretty cool thing.”
Although Rurik’s main sport is soccer, he decided to join the football team to help increase their numbers.
“It is just really cool to come out and help out the football team who asked for it and it’s just fun being out there on the field with all of the guys,” Rurik said. “They are doing their job and because they are doing their jobs right I can do my job and open up options in the running and passing game.”
To vote for “Big Man on Campus”, visit KMJ’s website by tomorrow afternoon.
