RIVERDALE FALLS AGAINST EAGLES, HOMECOMING–Oct. 14
For the second homecoming ever on the Eagles’ field, they defeated the Riverdale Cowboys 23-12, Oct. 14.
FC received the ball first and drove down the field to go up 7-0 under the running of Austin Rurik, ’12. Rurik ended the night with one touchdown in the first quarter and one in the fourth, and tallied 180 yards on 28 carries.
“It was really a cool experience and to lead the team in a homecoming game in rushing was an awesome privilege,” Rurik said. “The offensive line did a great job at blocking and allowed me to run in the open holes. Everyone just did their job perfectly on the running plays and it helped out a lot.”
Although FC went up early, 14-0, as senior Tyler Krigbaum ran in the other TD on a quarterback sneak, but the Cowboys still had fight in them. Riverdale scored 12 points in the first half to narrow the gap and end the half at 17-12.
Twice in the second half, the Eagles stopped Riverdale on the goal line to take back possession of the ball. Linebacker Adam Wood, ’12, who had 13 total tackles, attributes the win to these stops in the red zone.
“We were in the lead, but I did feel like they were going to get back into it,” Wood said. “I was afraid that we were going to blow our lead and lose it. Our red zone defense was great, that was the turnig point; if we didn’t stop them they would have 14 more points.”
Head coach Dan Stockton says he was impressed once again with Rurik’s performance at running back and felt he really helped the team.
“I’ve been coaching for 29 years and I’ve never seen a running back better than Austin in high school. Austin’s fast off the ball and has break away speed which helps us a lot,” Stockton said. “Overall though, we got to be happy with the win, leave the negatives on the field and just improve from the mistakes we made.”
Now at an even record 3-3, the Eagles will travel to play Fowler on their homecoming night, Oct. 21. Stockton feels his team has the potential to pull a win out of the bag, but they need to not let up on any play.
“We feel like we can beat them if our kids play like they did Friday night and we put the right scheme together,” Stockton said. “If we can stop their running back we have a real good chance of being competitive. Whether we win or not, I don’t know, but if my kids play like they’ve been playing, I’ll take the outcome.”
The Eagles will next travel to play Fowler, Oct. 21.

David has so many tremendous skills that he passionately pursues… and I, for one, sincerely appreciate his musical ability. Adding the upright to his arsenal is a commitment to a life of musical involvement that bodes well for church music ministries for years to come.
