The high school jazz band and Adoration Ensemble will be performing in a school fundraiser in Ground Zero, Nov. 7. Note the time has been changed from 7 to 8 p.m.
Music director Michael Ogdon invites everyone to attend the annual event where the band and choir will present music as well as host a dessert auction. The money collected from the auction will be donated to the music department.
?Students are being asked to raise money for the school,? Ogdon said. ?The donations help to support the Music Department with opportunities to participate in festivals and concerts.?
According to Ogdon, the Jazz Band is playing a set of 1940s big band tunes to start their set. His favorite is the “Hawaiian War Chant.”
“The Hawaiian tune has been used in a number of movies and commercials over the years – the Lion King to name one recently,” Ogdon said. “It’s really a fun song to play and people enjoy the sound of it.”
Those involved in the jazz and choir groups are eager to participate in the upcoming concert. Ivette Ibarra, ?15, mentions that ensemble is one of her more exciting classes.
?At first I was pretty intimidated by being the only freshmen, but I warmed up and have a blast every day,? Ibarra said. ?The concert is a great way to help out the music department with fundraising.?
The Adoration Ensemble just started working on a piece they will be singing at the ACSI Choral Festival in March 2012. Ogdon says it’s a Latin Jazz piece that reminds him of the Miami Sound Machine’s sound.
The performance begins at 8 p.m. and is intended to be a fun family event, where people can come enjoy music and dessert. There is no entrance fee, although visitors are welcome to bring donations and bid on treats. The time has been changed to allow students to also attend the girls’ volleyball home playoff match-up against Alpaugh the same night. Adoration singer Allison Camden will be missing for the evening, altering the group’s song line-up. The FCS community is encouraged to support both on campus events.
