In order to learn more about governmental procedures, students in Civics class will have a field trip to City Hall, Nov. 17.
Civics teachers Jordana Siebert and Robert Foshee will take their first and eighth period classes.
Students will be offered the opportunity to view the day in the life of city employees. According to Foshee, the classes will get a glimpse of roles and occupations at City Hall.
“The students will tour City Hall and will get to see what the employers from City Hall do,” Foshee said. “They will get the opportunity to sit in on a council meeting and see how they make laws in Fresno.”
From Siebert’s perspective, the field trip is a useful follow-up to the mock trial projects. After acting out judicial roles, the students will now watch another sort of civic duty.
“Civics did a mock trial in class,” Siebert said. “Then, they got to go to the Courthouse to see what the experience was like in person. Now they will get to tour City Hall because they are studying local government in class. They will remember more from this chapter they are studying because they can see it in action.”
Junior Briana Graff, a student in Foshee’s first period Civics class, looks forward to leaving her textbook behind, and watching the action in the real world.
“I get to learn more about local government because I can see it in person rather than just learning about it in the classroom,” Graff said.
The classes will leave school at 8:30 a.m. and arrive back at school at 12 p.m.
